Turn a 20$ DVD player into a portable NTSC display
Thursday, February 7th, 2008This sweet hack turns a cheap portable DVD player into a portable NTSC monitor. I can think of a few interesting applications: car night-vision and parking/back-up cameras, portable consoles, monitor for DIY film making, monitor for a hidden or remote (think on a kite) camera, etc. Nice, cheap and totally versatile.

DIY Nightvision Headset
Thursday, January 17th, 2008A very interesting project from KipKay (you might have heard of him through Metacafe): recycle a broken or obsolete camcorder and make a night vision camera out of its viewfinder. You’ll also need a few other components for this build but all the parts are reasonably inexpensive, considering the result. Best of all, you can output the video to record on a camcorder.

Video Circuit Bending
Friday, December 7th, 2007First of all, what is Circuit Bending? Wikipedia defines it as follows:
Circuit bending is the creative short-circuiting of low voltage, battery-powered electronic devices such as guitar effects, children’s toys and small synthesizers to create new musical instruments and sound generators. Emphasizing spontaneity and randomness, the techniques of circuit bending have been commonly associated with noise music, though many more conventional contemporary musicians and musical groups have been known to experiment with “bent” instruments.
Video Circuit Bending is taking video processing equipment, and modify it so that it yields unpredictible, yet interesting glitches.
This is a collection of projects, some of which have schematics. Some of the projects, you can build with very few basic parts, and some other require video equipment (some of which you can pick up for a few dollars at a garage sale or a flea market). Check it out!
