Preparation

Before starting, you need to prepare a bit. Skipping this step may result in lost time and frustration. Not to mention swearing.

  1. Backup your data. Once you remove the disk, you won’t be able to access it!
  2. Clean your workstation.
  3. Make sure you have proper lighting.
  4. Make sure you have some free time and that you won’t be interrupted (don’t do this just before dinner).
  5. Assemble all tools on the desk.
  6. Read the complete procedure so that you know what you’re getting into.
  7. Take your new hard drive and set it aside. Keep the static-proof bag to store the laptop’s memory when you take it out.

Step 1: Eject CD and Shutdown Computer.

(Click on the first thumbnail for detailed instructions)

  1. Eject whatever media you may have in the optical drive (CD/DVD). If you don’t do this, you won’t be able to open up the case!
  2. Shutdown the Computer. Don’t put it to Sleep, you’ll need to remove the battery later on.
