Step 2: Removing the Battery and Memory

  1. Close your laptop’s lid and flip it over so that the bottom faces up. Put it down on the anti-static surface.
  2. Insert a coin into the battery release slot and unlock the battery latch. The battery should pop up a bit.
  3. Remove the battery and set it aside. Make sure you don’t short the connectors.
  4. Using the #0 Phillips screwdriver, remove the 4 screws that hold the memory compartment shut. Reserve the screws.
  5. Take off the memory panel’s cover and set it aside.
  6. Pry apart the metal blades that hold the memory. Don’t exerce more force than reasonnable or necessary.
  7. Remove the memory stick and put it in the anti-static bag that you hard drive came in. If you have a second memory stick, remove it using the same procedure.
