Circle Packing
Circle Packing is an attempt at filling a rectangular area with circles.
The circles want to grow as big as possible, while not intersecting with their neighbors or the bounding area. They appear at random locations, and continue to do so until it is too hard to locate a suitable location.
The resulting image is curiously familiar. While the model I’ve used is a very simple one, that to some extent, mimics soap bubbles. I find the result aesthetically pleasing as well.
The use of color is somewhat meaningful. Circles on the left tend to be blue. Those to the right, green. The red component in the color is proportional to the size of a circle. So is the circle’s “darkness”, although I dampened this effect.
